Matt Schweighart grew up in Tuscola and graduated from Tuscola High School in 1999.

He attended the University of Illinois, where he earned a degree in Finance from the College of Business in 2003, along with a minor in Spanish, and was a member of the Campus Honors Program, a James Newton Matthews Scholar and an Edmund James Scholar.

He moved to St. Louis to attend law school at Saint Louis University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Saint Louis University Law Journal, served as a faculty research fellow and earned a Certificate in Health Law Studies from the nation’s topranked health law program.

Matt came back to the area after graduation and joined a firm located at the University of Illinois Research Park, specializing in representation of technology startup companies.

In 2011 he joined another firm and began building a broader practice, adding real estate and estate planning and administration, while continuing to represent business clients in various matters.

In April 2021, Matt founded Schweighart Law, P.C., with the goal of providing clear and cost-effective legal advice in a convenient and positive way without “over-lawyering” things.

In April 2023, recognizing a need for legal services in his hometown, Matt opened a second office on Rt. 36 in Tuscola, and he meets with clients by appointment at both locations.

Matt lives in Champaign. His wife Jacque is a Senior Vice President at the University of Illinois Foundation. They have two children, Caroline and Henry.

 In his free time, Matt coaches and supports his kids’ various sports teams, is a fan of the Illini and the Cubs, and occasionally has time to go boating or play some golf.
